Students should take the opportunity to stay after school, come early, or work during lunch on make-up work, completion of work, or to re-take tests. Please urge your child to come in to receive some extra one-on-one. These days are usually Tues and Thurs, but the student needs to check with me the day before to be sure of the available times.
If you would like an individual report of all your child's grades, please send a request via email to lkay@greenville.k12.sc.us If you wish to set up a conference, I prefer 7:45 AM for morning, and after 2 PM in the afternoon. Again, send me an email and I will get back to you shortly.
Classroom Policies and Procedures and School Rules
During the first week of classes, students are advised as to the rules and procedures as well as expectations for this class. In addition, students receive an orientation by grade level during the first week of school from school administrators about school rules and consequences.
Students receive a Parent-Student Handbook in homeroom that outlines information about the operation and procedures used daily at the high school.
1. All rules in the Student Handbook will be followed in this class.
2. Be in your assigned seat when the tardy bell rings, preparing to start the assignment or work for the day; see the board for daily work.
3. The teacher, not the bell, dismisses the class.
4. To protect our equipment, no food or drinks are allowed in the computer lab.
5. Be courteous and respectful to the teacher and classmates.
6. Make-up work is due within five days upon return to school.
7. Students should use the restroom before school, between classes and during lunch.
8. Computers are to be used for educational purposes only.
9. Cellular phones, pagers, CD players, radios, and similar devices are prohibited in the classroom. Read your handbook, please.
10. There is a re-do policy for work. Please see the website for this class.
Parents, students may receive a zero for the day if their computer is disconnected because of game-playing or Internet surfing that is not related to the tasks/labs for the day.

Woodmont High School
Business Education – Ms. Kay
Dear Parents,
Thanks for loaning your child to me for the year 2008-2009. During the first week of school, we will be doing a variety of tasks: filling in information sheets, discussing policies and procedures, issuing books, introducing ourselves, and much more. We also will be reviewing Microsoft Word 2007 and doing a few assignments using Word 2007, even in the Multimedia class.
The Multimedia class will be introduced to Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Flash this semester. They will also learn a bit of HTML. Best practices, including layout and accessibility, will be some early topics. The Computer Application class will be learning Microsoft Office 2007.
Because not all students have computers at home, or not all have the same software that we use at school, students are not expected to do computer assignments at home. Homework will be limited to those activities that do not require computer work. We also do not issue books for students to take home. There is one set for classroom use only. Students will be assigned a number for their computer and book; they are responsible for caring for that school property.
Attendance is very important! Please make every effort to have your child in class and on time. Students are responsible for all work missed due to absences.
Progress reports and report cards are given to all students each nine-week period. A copy of the syllabus is located on my web site, however a hard copy of the syllabus is provided with this letter for parents and students who may not have access to a computer or the Internet. Parents will be contacted whenever there is a problem with a student’s grades or behavior. I will communicate with parents at Open House, PTSA meetings, and other school and community events. I love to communicate via email; send me an email now and I will add you to my address book. My email address is lkay@greenville.k12.sc.us
My website is http://teachers.greenville.k12.sc.us/sites/lkay/default.aspx
I look forward to meeting you at Open House!
Sincerely,
Letha V. Kay
